Toombs County Schools Mourns Loss of Staff Member

Toombs County Schools is mourning the loss of Toombs County Middle School Cafeteria Staff Member Josie Conner, who passed away on Saturday, May 2, from injuries sustained in a car wreck.

On Friday afternoon, May 1, Conner was driving along U.S. Highway 1 in Emanuel County when her car collided with a tractor. Conner was rushed to a hospital in Augusta in the attempt to save her life, but ultimately succumbed to her injuries on Saturday, May 2.

Toombs County Middle School released a statement on Saturday afternoon about Conner’s passing. “It is with great sadness that we share the unexpected passing of Josie Conner, a member of our cafeteria staff at TCMS. Josie was a valued member of our school family whose kindness and dedication made a difference in the lives of our students and staff each day,” the statement shared.

The School encouraged community members to keep Conner’s family and friends in their thoughts and prayers for the days to come.

Conner’s loved ones will gather to visit with her family from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Wilkes Funeral Home in Vidalia on Wednesday, May 6. Her life will be celebrated with a ceremony at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, in the Toombs County High School Auditorium in Lyons. The family has asked that attendees wear bright and vibrant colors to commemorate her.
