Brewton-Parker Christian University has expanded its campus by 18.44 acres, as the University recently purchased an adjacent property to continue to grow the University grounds. The University has announced the purchase of the adjacent property and home located at 818 West College Street in Ailey, which will continue to increase the University’s frontage and visibility from U.S. Highway 280 by more than 900 feet.

“At Brewton-Parker Christian University, we seek to be thoughtful stewards of opportunities that support the future of the institution,” remarked University President Steven Echols. “The addition of this property provides great potential for the continued growth of BPCU. As we seek to fulfill our mission of seeing the lives of our students transformed academically and spiritually for the glory of God, we are mindful that we also desire to serve our local communities and the surrounding region. We believe this addition will be a valuable asset in achieving these goals.” The property includes a 9,128 square-foot home, which was build in 1990, and a 20 ft. by 30 ft. barn, which was built in 2014. The property was previously owned by the Peterson family, but has been uninhabited since the death of Barbara Berry Peterson in August 2023.

Once the property became available for purchase, the University recognized the opportunity to secure the land at a time that aligns with the University’s continued growth and long-term vision. Currently, the University has not finalized any short or long-term development plans, as the immediate focus is on general clean-up to ensure the area reflects the University’s standard of care and stewardship that defines the campus environment.

This purchase is exemplary of the University’s commitment to providing students with as many opportunities as possible to prepare for their future through lifelong learning, service, and Biblically-centered education.
