Vidalia Library Offers Numerous Programs During August

The Dr. Mark and Tonya Spivey Public Library has hosted a summer of fun throughout June and July, and will continue to host programming for patrons of all ages throughout August.

Kids can explore the library’s Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) room and 3-D printer during Spark Time from 3:45 p.m. until 4:45 p.m., and adults (ages 20 and older) of all experience levels will gather to play Dungeons and Dragons from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 5.

The annual Vidalia-Toombs County Friends of the Library Book Sale will be held from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, and Friday, August 7; and from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Saturday, August 8.

On Thursday, August 6, kids can compete against each other in both virtual and board games during Game Time! at 4 p.m.

Babies and toddlers can learn through movement and song during the Wiggles and Giggles program at 10:30 a.m., and teenagers will meet to play Dungeons and Dragons from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, August 7.

The library will show Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief for all patrons to enjoy at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 8.

On Monday, August 10, kids will play Bingo at 4 p.m.

On Tuesday, August 11, the library’s youngest patrons – ages birth through five – will meet for Story Time at 11 a.m., while kids – ages 6 through 14 – meet for Lego Club later at 4 p.m. and can enjoy an art-based story time during Art and Tales at 4:30 p.m.

Patrons of all ages can show off their knowledge during Trivia: Sci-Fi or Sci-Fact? At 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12.

Players of all ages and skill levels can meet to play chess and learn from each other during Chess Club at 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 13.

On Friday, August 14, the library’s youngest patrons – ages birth through five – will meet for Wiggles and Giggles at 10:30 p.m., and kids will enjoy a sweet treat and show off their creativity during Cookies & Canvas at 4 p.m. Cookies & Canvas attendees should preregister for the event by calling the Library.

The library will show Tangled as the weekend movie at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 15.

Patrons can come test their knowledge during Trivia: Misquoted and Misremembered at 5 p.m. on Monday, August 17.

Simpson and co-author Mary Frances Weaver will present their book Within the House of Murdaugh: Amid a Unique Friendship from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Teenagers must preregister for the felt magnet program by calling the library; the authors will have books available for purchase and autographing.

Kids will make slime as a part of the Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) activity at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26.

Chess Club will meet at 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 27.

Wiggles and Giggles will bring the babies, toddlers, parents, and caregivers together to explore movement and music at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 28.

At 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, adults will show off their creativity during Book Bedazzling. Preregistration is required for this activity; call the library to register.

On Monday, August 31, teenagers will explore new countries without ever leaving the library during Passport to Adventure at 3 p.m., while the adult Sweet Onion Book Club meets at 5 p.m. For information on this month’s Sweet Onion Book Club reading, call the library or visit the circulation desk.
