Anonymous Bomb Threat in Wheeler

Wheeler County Schools received an anonymous bomb threat just one day before students returned to the classroom last week.

According to the district, the school system received an anonymous bomb threat message Thursday morning, July 30. Out of an abundance of caution and adherence to the district’s safety plan, all staff evacuated the building, which was then searched by trained staff and search dogs. The message was also investigated by the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Emergency Management Agency, and Georgia Bureau of Investigation, who found there to be no true threat to safety.

The building was cleared and later reopened at 12 p.m. on Thursday. The district shared their appreciation to the local and state safety partners who helped to probe the incident and the school system’s staff who acted swiftly in response to the threat.

Students returned to the classroom to begin the 2026/2027 school year on Friday, July 31, with no more threats being reported.
