LRD 10U Girls Take 3rd At State

The Lyons Recreation Department 10U girls softball team wrapped up a standout summer last week, making the long trip to Dalton and bringing home a third-place finish from the GRPA State Tournament.

LRD vs. Crisp Lyons opened tournament play against Crisp County and went to work early. The offense clicked right out of the gate, and Lyons cruised to an easy 16-0 run-rule victory in the first round.

LRD vs. Emanuel

The second round brought a matchup with Emanuel County. Lyons handled their business again, picking up an 11-3 win to secure a spot in the winners' bracket semifinals.

LRD vs. Whitfield

That set up a tough clash with the host team, Whitfield County. Whitfield brought a strong lineup to the field. Despite a solid effort from Lyons to keep things close, the hosts took the game 8-5. The loss bumped Lyons down to the losers' bracket.

LRD vs. Emanuel

Fighting to stay alive, Lyons faced a rematch against Emanuel County. Emanuel flipped the script the second time around and came out swinging. They secured a 12-8 win over Lyons, ending the LRD tournament run and finalizing their spot at third place in the state standings.

Whitfield County went on to defeat Emanuel 12-11 in a tight Championship Game.

Putting together a District title and a deep run to third place at the state level is a tough task. The LRD girls proved they belonged among the best in Georgia this season.
