Vidalia community members will celebrate the Juneteenth holiday with a weekend of family events, kicking off with a Community Food and Clothes Distribution Day on Friday, June 19. During this Distribution Day, the Bread of Heaven Outreach, Inc., New Life In Christ Ministries, and other groups will work together to give out free food and clothes during a drive-through distribution, which will begin at 11 a.m. at New Life in Christ Ministries, located at 208 Meadowbrook Street in Vidalia. On Saturday, June 20, senior citizens will be able to enjoy a night of elegance, music, and memories, as a Senior Citizens Prom is held from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Durden Cabin at Partin Park in Lyons. The event will feature bingo games, music, and fellowship, as attendees dress to impress and enjoy the night.

Later that night, families will be able to enjoy a Movie Under the Stars at the Ronnie A. Dixon City Park, located at 114 Jackson Street in Vidalia. This event will feature vendors and music before the film, which will begin at dusk. The event will also unveil the new Juneteenth anthem, “One Love United,” which was written by Vidalia Citizen Rodney Wiggins and arranged by Kenny Dwriter. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets as they enjoy this night of fun for the whole family.

These events are designed to honor freedom, celebrate culture, and build community. For more information, visit the Vidalia Juneteenth Facebook page or email vidaliajuneteenth@ gmail.com.
