Last week, Treutlen County 4-H Club members expanded their knowledge on how to keep themselves and others safe during emergencies, as the students learned about CPR and how to use fire extinguishers.
These lessons were arranged by Treutlen County Emergency Management Agency Director Justin McNure, who instructed the club members on the proper procedures of performing CPR and the Heimlich maneuver on infants, children, and adults. Students were then able to practice what they learned on training dummies.
The group then moved outside, where they learned how to use a fire extinguisher and practiced putting out flames in a burn barrel.
The EMA also provided hotdogs and hamburgers for the 4-H club members who participated in the activity, as they spent time getting to know the students.
“This experience exemplifies our hands-on learning approach and the community that supports us in doing so,” Treutlen County 4-H Program Assistant Paige Posey explained. “We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Treutlen County EMA office, Director Justin McNure, and all the volunteers and staff who contributed to the class's success.”
