Toombs County Resident Demetrius Ford recently took home top honors in the Georgia Department of Transportation District Heavy Equipment Competition in Perry. This district competition brought skilled competitors from across seven districts in Georgia to show off their expertise, precision, and safety knowledge for a chance to be named the best at their craft. To test these skills, participants operated heavy equipment in a series of challenging events, as they attempted to rise to the top of the competition.
Ford stood out for his exceptional talent and professionalism in the Tandem Axle Dump Truck Competition, as he was named the sole victor, earning first place out of fifteen competitors.
Though Ford represented District 5 and Toombs County in the District Competition, he will now represent the state of Georgia as a whole in the national competition, which will occur in Virginia at a later date.
