The Treutlen County Library is bringing fun and literacy to the community, as the 2026 Summer Reading Program works to “unearth a story.”

Libraries across the nation are kicking off Summer Reading Programs to encourage students to continue reading and improving their literacy skills throughout the summer. Treutlen County Library is hosting a Summer Reading Program of their own, as they offer a variety of free activities for children in the community throughout the month of June.

This year’s Program is themed around “Unearthing a Story,” as participants dig into good books, uncover hidden stories, and explore the past. This theme also emphasizes that every person and every community have stories waiting to be found and shared— through books, programs, and local knowledge.

The Program is free and open to the public. Children are not required to sign up for the Summer Reading Program to attend events, but will receive prizes for signing up and participating in events if registered. In order to receive a certificate and additional prizes at the conclusion of the summer’s program, participants must register and record the books they read during the SRP in their reading logs. The last day to record books is Thursday, June 18, which is also the last day to submit their reading logs. Children who read the most will have their pictures appear in the newspaper and an overall winner, who must have completed at least pre-k, will be crowned.

The library will kick off the Program with a visit from a petting zoo on Thursday, June 4, and will host four exciting programs and activities every Thursday throughout the month of June. The library will also host a story walk and ice cream event, sponsored by Treutlen County Farm Bureau, in honor of June being National Dairy Month.

Parents and adults are encouraged to attend the programs with children. The Treutlen County Library is located at 585 Second Street in Soperton, and is open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday through Thursday. For more information, call (478) 2467181.
