Soperton City Council Looking to Modernize Historical Community Club House

During their regularly scheduled meeting on May 18, 2026, the Soperton City Council addressed the issue of modernizing the community clubhouse. The building was built in 1936 by local labor through President Roosevelt’s Works Progress Administration and is considered one of the few usable historical buildings in town.
Council members discussed at length options for renovating the interior of the building and exterior work for the porches and steps. After much discussion and questions posed by council members about the project, Mayor John Koon made the motion to table a vote for soliciting renovation bids until the next scheduled meeting, allowing the council members time to visit the property and access the work that needs to be done.
In other business, the council voted to enlist the services of Priority Lawns for the lawn care of the city cemetery and unanimously approved the purchase and installation of new light poles for the pickle ball courts at the old recreation park.
The next regular Soperton City Council Meeting is scheduled for June 15, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. The work session is scheduled that day at 5:30 p.m.
The public is encouraged to attend both meetings.
