The Toombs County High School Fishing Team of AJ Bagby, 11th grader, and Lane Bagby, 8th Grader, placed 10th at Lake Eufaula on April 25, out of 119 high school teams. The TCHS Fishing Team is continuing their hot streak for the year. They won the Clarks Hill GHSA Event and now have five Top-10 finishes on the season.
“Lake Eufaula was fishing very tough and stingy right now. The bass have spawned and are in the process of moving out to the creek and river ledges where they will spend the summer. The fish are all spread out and it is very hard to locate and catch them right now. Due to the bass being so scattered, we focused on brush piles in the 10 to 15 depth range. Most of the fish we caught are using the brush piles and stumps as stopping points as they migrate out to the ledges”, said AJ Bagby.
“It was an absolute grind at Lake Eufaula. We lost a big fish at the net that cost us 4 to 5 places in our finish. Thankfully, we ended up culling up two times later in the day and that got us back into the Top 10. We continued to move up in AOY points with this Lake Eufaula Top 10 finish,” said Lane Bagby.
The Top 10 finish moved the TCHS Fishing Team into 4th place for the Bassmaster AOY (Anglers of the Year) points race out of 156 high school teams. The TCHS Lake Dawgs' next tournaments are the GHSA State Championship at Lake Sinclair on May 9 and the GA Bass Nation Championship at Lake Seminole on June 12 and 13 (2-day event).
