that began in March, and has since left most of Montgomery, Toombs, and Wheeler Counties in a D4-Exceptional Drought, and Treutlen County in a D3-Extreme Drought.
In order to help with the dryness and need for water throughout the region, the EPD has issued a Level 1 Drought Response, which does not restrict water usage but works to bring awareness to the issue and encourage citizens to be aware of their water usage and voluntarily conserve water.
Ways that citizens may currently conserve water are to water lawns and gardens early in the morning or late in the evening to prevent the water from evaporating; fix any leaks in faucets, toilets, and irrigation systems; run dishwashers and washing machines only when the devices have full loads; turn off water when brushing teeth or washing dishes; and limit unnecessary outdoor water usage by avoiding activities like washing driveways or sidewalks.
The EPD will continue to monitor the drought; if conditions worsen, additional drought response levels and potential water usage restrictions may be implemented.
