Brewton-Parker Christian University recently expanded opportunities for students even further, as they officially installed the first members of the Gamma Psi Chapter of the Sigma Zeta Honor Society.

Sigma Zeta is a national honor society for undergraduate students excelling in mathematics and science. The effort to create a chapter of Sigma Zeta to the University’s campus was led by University Division Chair for Mathematics and Natural Sciences Justine Hardy, who wanted to give students the opportunity to be awarded and recognized for their efforts.

“Our students have worked hard to reach this level of academic achievement, and this chapter gives them a way to be recognized while continuing to challenge themselves,” Hardy remarked. “I am excited to see how this group will grow and what they will accomplish moving forward.”

Sigma Zeta National Honor Society Executive Director Joe Burnell attended and led the Gamma Psi Chapter’s official induction ceremony, as he officially established the chapter and witnessed the induction of the Chapter’s inaugural members and faculty. Three student leaders will lead the Chapter, while Professor Anna Reese will serve as the Chapter’s faculty advisor.

In total, twelve students were inducted into the society, including President Arianna Conway, Vice President Kaylee Odum, and Secretary Shelby Aiken. Eight faculty members shared their support of the Chapter and plan to help however needed.

“This is a meaningful step forward for our science and mathematics programs. It reflects the strength of our faculty and the dedication of our students, and it reinforces our commitment to preparing graduates who pursue excellence, think deeply, and serve faithfully in their calling,” Brewton-Parker Christian University President Steve Echols remarked.

The establishment of the Gamma Psi Chapter provides students with new opportunities for recognition and engagement within their academic disciplines. The chapter is expected to play an active role in supporting student success and strengthening the university’s academic community in the years to come.
