The Vidalia High School Track and Field teams turned in a powerhouse performance at the West Laurens meet, with both the boys’ and girls’ squads capturing first place overall.

The Indians showcased exceptional depth, speed, and grit across the board, an effort highlighted by two new school records that electrified the competition and set a commanding tone for the day.

Leading the charge for the boys was Jaydyn Young, who shattered the Vidalia school record in the 110-meter hurdles. Young clocked a blazing 13.83 seconds to take first place, cementing his name among the program’s all-time greats. He maintained that momentum to also claim victory in the 300-meter hurdles.

Tyler McKinney added to the sprint dominance by securing a win in the 100-meter dash, while Cash Driggers proved to be a standout in the distance categories, taking first in both the 800 and 1600-meter events.

Boys

The boys' relay teams were just as formidable. The 4×800 relay squad of Wyatt Vassey, Simon Collins, Adrian Brewton, and Driggers confidently took home first place. Young and McKinney then teamed up with Jamarion Lanier and Ja’Marre Wiggs to win the 4×200 relay.

Rounding out the effort, the 4×400 relay team of Kashun Coney, Alton Boles, Jamarcus Bouyer, and Driggers fought hard for a second-place finish, narrowly missing a school record of their own.

Girls

The girls’ team rewrote the history books as well, driven by a stellar performance from their relay combinations. The 4×200 relay squad of Kayden Love, Zenobia Rollins, Dreshiya Jackson, and J’Miyah Hunt sprinted to victory with a new school record time of 1:43.67.

Proving their chemistry was no fluke, that exact same foursome later returned to the track to win the 4×100 relay.

Individual efforts kept the points rolling in for the girls throughout the afternoon. Takaiyah Bacon captured the long jump championship, and Mischa Wardlaw took first in the 300-meter hurdles. In the individual sprints, Rollins secured the 100-meter title, while Hunt won the 200-meter dash with a personal best time of 25.98.

Distance runners Emilynn Campbell and Judith Hussey sealed the team's dominance by winning the 800-meter and 1600-meter events, respectively.

The meet marked a significant step forward for both squads as they continue to build momentum heading into the Region Championship this Friday. With multiple personal bests, broken records, and clean sweeps across several events, the Vidalia Track and Field program proved once again why it remains among the elite in the state.
