The Montgomery County High School Eagles baseball team wrapped up their regular season slate last week, taking one of three games against regional opponents. MCHS earned a dominant win at home against Claxton on Tuesday, but dropped consecutive road games to East Laurens and Claxton to finish the regular season at 8-15 overall and 5-7 in Region play. vs. Claxton

The week started on a high note at home as the Eagles routed the Claxton Tigers 12-2. MCHS got the offense going immediately, plating three runs in the bottom of the first inning, sparked by an RBI hit from Matthew Harvey. The Eagles then blew the game wide open in the second inning.

Capitalizing on a struggling Tigers pitching staff, MCHS loaded the bases and used a series of walks and hit batters to push seven runs across, extending their lead to a comfortable 10-0. Claxton managed a pair of runs in the top of the third, but the Eagles answered with a run in the bottom half of the frame to make it 11-2. A final run in the fifth sealed the 12-2 victory for Montgomery County. vs. E. Laurens

Wednesday brought a tougher test on the road against the East Laurens Falcons, resulting in a 13-3 loss. The Falcons ambushed the Eagles early, putting up five runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control. Montgomery County showed some fight, getting two runs across in the top of the second, but East Laurens responded with a run in the bottom half to stretch it to 6-2.

The Eagles managed one more run in the third to cut into the deficit, but the Falcons' bats stayed hot. East Laurens pulled away with four runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth before adding a final run in the sixth to close out the game. vs. Claxton

On Thursday, the Eagles traveled to Claxton for a rematch but fell short in a 6-1 defeat. Montgomery County struck first, scratching across a run in the top of the first inning to take an early lead. However, the Tigers answered right back with a run in the bottom of the first, took the lead with another run in the second, and then put the game out of reach with a four-run third inning.

With the regular season in the rearview mirror, the Eagles are now preparing for a tough first-round matchup in the GHSA State Baseball Playoffs. MCHS will hit the road to face Bowden for a doubleheader this Wednesday, with game times still to be announced. If a tiebreaker is necessary, the two teams will play a decisive third game on Thursday at Bowden.
