vs. Wilcox
Thursday’s region showdown with Wilcox proved to be the stumbling block of the week. Wilcox struck first with a run in the opening frame, but the Vikings fought back in the fourth. A clutch hit by Gavin Wood, coupled with a costly Wilcox error, allowed Treutlen to take a 2-1 lead.
The advantage, however, was short-lived. Wilcox responded aggressively in the bottom of the fourth, erupting for five runs to take a 6-2 lead. Treutlen managed to scratch across one more run in the sixth but couldn't close the gap, falling 6-3. vs. Tattnall
Looking to bounce back in Friday's regularseason finale against Tattnall, the Vikings struck early. A run in the bottom of the first and another in the third gave Treutlen a 2-0 lead that held late into the game.
The pitching and defense eventually wore down, as Tattnall managed a run in the top of the sixth before a threerun rally in the seventh stunned the hometown crowd. The Vikings couldn't muster a comeback in their final at-bat, dropping a tough 4-2 decision.
The regular season is in the books, and the focus is solely on what comes next. The Vikings return home this Wednesday to host the Mt. Zion Eagles in the first round of the state playoffs. The best-of-three series kicks off with a doubleheader starting at 4:00 p.m. If a decisive third game is needed, it will be played Thursday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
