Busy Week For VHS Soccer
It was a demanding final stretch of the regular season for the Vidalia High School soccer programs as they navigated a busy three-game slate against Woodville-Tompkins, Dublin, and East Laurens. The Lady Indians secured a flawless 3-0 run to carry momentum into the postseason, while the boys surrendered a bitter doubleovertime loss to Woodville before bouncing back to decisively win their final two matchups.
Girls vs. Woodville
The week opened on Monday with a grueling home doubleheader against Woodville-Tompkins. The girls’ matchup was a pure defensive struggle, with neither squad yielding a goal through both halves of regulation. In the overtime period, Woodville finally put a point on the board, but the Lady Indians answered the call, rallying to find the back of the net twice and secure a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
Boys vs. Woodville
The boys’ contest was a different story, turning into a high-scoring affair that ultimately slipped away. Vidalia built a comfortable 2-0 lead by halftime and added two more goals in the second half. However, Woodville mounted a relentless second- half surge, scoring four times to tie the game at 4-4 and force overtime. After a scoreless first extra period, Woodville broke through in the second overtime to hand the Indians a tough 5-4 loss. Dakota Brannon led the VHS offense with two goals, while Wyatt Vassey and Ivan Castillo each added one. vs. Dublin
Both teams quickly shook off Monday's exhaustion, returning to their home turf Tuesday to sweep Dublin. The Lady Indians controlled their matchup from the opening whistle, rolling to a comfortable 3-0 shutout over the Irish. The boys mirrored that defensive success with a 2-0 victory, grinding out one goal in each half courtesy of Wyatt Vassey and Lake Wright.
Girls vs. E. Laurens
The regular season concluded on Thursday against East Laurens with another pair of Vidalia shutouts. The Lady Indians were locked in a scoreless tie at the half against the Lady Falcons but broke things open with two second- half goals to secure a 2-0 win.
Boys vs. E. Laurens
Meanwhile, the boys' team dismantled East Laurens in an 8-0 rout. The Indians netted three goals in the first half and poured on five more in the second. Lake Wright and Dakota Brannon paced the offense with hat tricks, while Declan Emanuel and Kayden Brantley each chipped in a goal to cap off the regular season.
The focus now shifts entirely to the playoffs. The Lady Indians kicked off their postseason run at home on Tuesday against Rabun County in a game that concluded after presstime. A victory there sends them to the next round next Tuesday to face the winner of the Temple and Fannin County matchup. The boys hit the road on Wednesday, traveling to Lamar County for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. A win will advance them to a secondround showdown next Wednesday against either Dade County or Putnam County.
