VHS Soccer Splits Matches

It was a week that tested the resilience of the Vidalia High School soccer programs. Facing a demanding region schedule, both the boys and girls squads had to swallow tough rivalry losses on the road Tuesday before digging deep to defend their home turf on Friday. vs. Toombs Co.

The week started with a short trip to rival Toombs County, where the Bulldogs managed to defend their home field against the visiting Indians. The Lady Indians had a tough time finding their rhythm against Toombs, eventually falling by a score of 3-1.

The boys’ matchup was a much tighter, backand- forth affair that went down to the wire, but Vidalia ultimately came up just short in a frustrating 4-3 defeat. vs. Savannah

Instead of letting the rivalry sweep linger, both teams regrouped for Friday’s critical matchups against the Savannah Christian Raiders back in Vidalia. The Lady Indians set the tone early. They managed to break through the Raiders' defense in the first half to take a 1-0 lead into the break. Savannah Christian pushed back in the second half, with both teams finding the back of the net, but Vidalia's defense held firm down the stretch to secure a 2-1 victory.

The boys followed suit, putting together a solid, disciplined performance to match the girls with their own hardfought 2-1 win over the Savannah boys.

With the regular season rapidly winding down, the Lady Indians currently sit at a strong 11-4 overall and 2-3 in region play, while the boys are carrying an 8-6 overall record and an even 2-2 mark in the region. It’s a busy final stretch for the programs this week. VHS hosted Woodville-Tompkins on Monday and the Irish of Dublin were in town on Tuesday, with both of those matches concluding after presstime.
