RTCA Soccer Sweeps Heritage
The Robert Toombs Christian Academy soccer teams protected their home pitch last week, securing a pair of hard-fought victories over the visiting Vidalia Heritage Academy Eagles.
Girls
The girls' matchup was a gritty defensive battle from the opening whistle. RTCA managed to find the back of the net just once in the first half when Madeline Wolfe broke through the Heritage backline for what would ultimately be the game-winner.
From there, both defenses dug in. Heritage goalkeeper Libby Clark put on a clinic to keep the Eagles within striking distance, turning away an impressive 13 shots on the day. On the opposite end of the pitch, Mary Frances Stanley was equally steady, recording five saves to earn the clean sheet and secure the tight 1-0 win for the Lady Crusaders.
Boys
In the boys' contest, RTCA took control early, overwhelming the Heritage defense with three first-half goals. Hayden Meeks paced the Crusaders' attack, netting a pair of goals, while Blake Durden added another to build a commanding 3-0 halftime lead.
Heritage refused to roll over and finally broke through for a goal in the second half, but the early deficit proved too steep to overcome. Tae Franklin anchored the RTCA defense down the stretch, tallying seven saves to preserve the 3-1 victory.
Looking ahead, both RTCA squads were back in action Monday afternoon in games that concluded after presstime. The Lady Crusaders currently sit at a solid 5-2 on the season, while the boys hold an even 3-3 record.
The Heritage boys, still searching for traction this season at 0-11, were also scheduled to face Wheeler County on Monday after presstime. The Lady Eagles, now 4-9 on the year, have a busy back half of the week as they prepare to host Windsor Academy on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. before hitting the road to face Citizens Christian on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
