The Vidalia High School Indians baseball team secured a decisive three-game sweep against the Savannah Country Day Hornets last week, improving their season record to 19-8 and moving to 7-2 in Region play. The Indians dominated the series from start to finish, outscoring the Hornets by a combined margin of 40-1 over the three matchups.

Game 1

Vidalia opened the series on the road Tuesday, blanking the Hornets 14-0. The Indians established control in the top of the second inning with three runs, sparked by consecutive RBI singles from Henry Adams and Ryan Brantley, followed by a basesloaded walk drawn by Banks Hopkins. The offense maintained its rhythm, adding four runs in the fourth and two in the fifth. They capped the night with a five-run sixth inning, highlighted by RBI hits from Jake McCaw and Adams, and a threerun homer from Cayden Nance.

Game 2

Returning to Vidalia on Wednesday, the Indians briefly trailed after the Hornets scratched across a run in the top of the first inning. The deficit was short-lived. Vidalia responded with five runs in the bottom half of the frame, punctuated by Veer Patel’s two-run double.

Vidalia then blew the game open in the second inning, stringing together RBIs from Patel, Eli Cleghorn, Justus Gabbard, and Adams to build a 9-1 advantage. Single runs in the fourth and fifth innings neatly sealed the 11-1 victory.

Game 3

Friday’s series finale back in Savannah was another lopsided affair, with Vidalia cruising to a 15-0 run-rule win. Patel drove in a run in the first inning to help give VHS an early 3-0 lead. In the second, Brantley singled in a run, Patel hit a sacrifice fly, and a passed ball allowed another run to cross, making it 6-0.

Vidalia capitalized on a pair of Savannah Country Day errors in the third inning, and Patel connected for a home run to stretch the lead to 10-0. The Indians put the game away in the top of the fourth with a fiverun outburst, driven by Brantley’s grand slam and an RBI from Clay Mimbs.

The sweep sets up a crucial regular-season finale this week as the Indians face off against their rival, Toombs County. Game one of the series was scheduled for Tuesday after presstime. The teams will meet again in Lyons on Thursday at 5:45 p.m. before wrapping up the regular season in Vidalia on Friday, also at 5:45 p.m.
