deputies and their handlers to learn how to detect narcotics and track suspects to help law enforcement catch criminals and work to get drugs off the street.

“K-9 Deputy Blue will be an extremely valuable asset to Wheeler County,” Sheriff Glenn Giles emphasized. “His advanced narcotics detection abilities will play a critical role in helping us locate and remove dangerous drugs from our streets, contributing to a safer community for all citizens. In addition, Blue’s tracking abilities will enhance our ability to locate individuals who may flee from deputies, improving both officer effectiveness and public safety.”

Sheriff Giles also explained that K-9 Deputy Blue will be a great resource and partner in search and rescue situations, as he will help the County to quickly track individuals and bring them to safety. “In the event that a child or vulnerable adult becomes lost or goes missing, Blue will allow our office to respond immediately and efficiently, without the delay of waiting for assistance from an outside agency,” he remarked. “This capability alone represents a significant advancement in the level of service we are able to provide to our community.”

The Sheriff also thanked the Wheeler County citizens for their support of the Sheriff’s Office, as he stated that the new K-9 unit was only possible through donations from the public, which paid for both the dog and the specialized training.

“I would like to extend my sincere and heartfelt appreciation to the donors, who wish to remain anonymous. Your generosity has provided our office with a resource that will serve and protect all citizens of Wheeler County for years to come. Without your support, this would not have been possible,” Sheriff Giles concluded.

Corporal Murray and K-9 Deputy Blue will now begin serving the citizens, as they patrol the streets and respond to emergencies and crime.
