Wheeler Soccer Makes Elite 8

Both Wheeler County High School soccer teams made it to the Elite 8 of the GHSA State Playoffs this year. Both boys and girls from Wheeler had a bye in the first round of the playoffs, and then they both won their second round matches. The girls fell in the Elite 8, but the boys played in their Elite 8 game on Tuesday after presstime.

Girls vs. Dooly Co.

In the second round of the playoffs, the Lady Bulldogs picked up a win over the Lady Bobcats of Dooly. Wheeler won the game 4-1 to move on to the Elite 8.

Boys vs. Towns Co.

The boys also won their second round matchup as they defeated the Indians of Towns County. Wheeler got goals from Joshua Juarez, Kevin Ramirez, and Lamrcus Woodard. They held Towns to just one goal on the way to a 3-1 victory.

Girls vs. Lake Oconee

The girls ran into the Lady Titans of Lake Oconee Academy on Monday of this week in the Elite 8. Lake Oconee came out on top as they allowed Wheeler to score just one goal in the game. The Titans offense had it going as they found the back of the net six times, to take the win, 6-1.

The Lady Bulldogs ended their season with a record of 10-5.

The Wheeler boys faced off with Atlanta Classical Academy on Tuesday of this week in the Elite 8 after presstime. If they won that game they will move onto the semifinals, where they will take on the winner of the Fugees Academy vs. Atkinson County game. The semifinals will be held this Friday.
