Wheeler Splits Games

The Bulldogs of Wheeler County High School played two nonregion games last week as they took on Clinch County and Johnson County. The Bulldogs got the win over Clinch in a close game but fell to Johnson in a pitching dual. Wheeler is now 18-2 on the year and they are 11-0 in Region play. vs. Clinch

The Bulldogs got some last inning heroics to win the game over Clinch. Clinch took the early lead with four runs in the top of the first inning. Wheeler picked up a run in the bottom of the frame to make the score 4-1.

Clinch added two more runs in the second inning to take a 6-1 lead, but Wheeler closed it to 6-3 with two runs in the bottom of the second. Wheeler added another run in the third inning to make the score 6-4.

Wheeler tied the game in the fifth inning on an error and a sacrifice fly by Bobby Rowland at 6-6. Then in the bottom of the seventh inning Kolt Bell drove in the winning run as Wheeler took a 7-6 win over Clinch. vs. Johnson

Bell threw a solid game for the Bulldogs, but they came up just short to the Trojans of Johnson.

Johnson scored the only run of the game off an error in the second inning. Wheeler had just four hits in the game, but couldn't come up with the big one when they needed it as Johnson won the game 1-0.

This week the Bulldogs will play a threegame Region series against Wilcox County. They played the first game on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action at Wilcox on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. and on Friday in Alamo at 6:00 p.m. This is a big series with Region #1 on the line.
