The Vidalia High School Indian baseball team faced off with the Bears of Pierce County last week in a three-game Region series. The Indians dropped the first two games of the series, but bounced back in the third game for a win. VHS is now 10-14 on the year and they are 5-6 in Region 3AA and currently sit in 5th place.

Game 1

On Tuesday of last week at home, the Indians lost a high scoring game to the Bears. Pierce got on the board with a run in the top of the first inning, but the Indians answered in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 1-1.

In the top of the second inning, the Bears broke the game open as they plated six runs to take a 7-1 lead over VHS. Pierce added a run in the third inning, two more in the fourth, and three in the fifth as they went ahead, 13-1, over the Indians.

VHS came back with six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to close the lead to 13-7, and VHS added one more in the sixth inning. But that was all they could get as they lost to Pierce, 13-8.

Veer Patel took the loss for Vidalia. The starter went five innings giving up 13 runs (three earned runs) on nine hits. Jackson Berry led the team with three RBI’s. Andrew Norfleet also had a good day going 2-4 at the plate.

Game 2

In the second game of the series, Pierce again rolled to a win over VHS. Vidalia scored the first run of the game in the top of the second inning, but that was all they could muster on the day.

Pierce plated five runs in the third inning and four more in the fourth to take a 9-1 lead over the Indians. The Bears added two more runs in the fifth inning on the way to an 11-1 win over VHS.

Tucker McDonald took the loss for the Indians going two and twothirds innings allowing five hits and five runs. Vidalia collected four hits on the night from Berry, Brayden McCaw, Patel, and Mason Toole.

Game 3

On Senior night, Vidalia avoided the sweep, thanks in part to six runs in the second inning. Lawson Lowe tripled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, McCaw drew a walk, scoring one run, and McDonald doubled, scoring two runs. That gave the Indians a 6-0 lead in the second inning.

VHS held over the remainder of the game as they took the win by that score.

Carson Ricks also had a good night at the plate with two hits. Berry got his seventh win of the season pitching a one hitter in a complete game shut out, while striking out eight.

This week the Indians will face off with crosscounty rival Toombs County in a three-game Region series. The first game of the week was on Tuesday in Lyons after presstime. They will play the second game on Thursday in Vidalia at 5:45 p.m., and then wrap it up on Friday in Lyons at 5:45 p.m.
