BPC At Missouri Valley

Brewton-Parker College Men’s Wrestling traveled to Marshall, Mo., with four wrestlers to take part in the opening day of the Missouri Valley Invitational hosted by Missouri Valley College.

Justin Grant wrestled at 174 and picked up a 2-2 record for the day. Grant dropped the first match in an 11-6 decision to Embry-Riddle’s (Ariz.) Daniil Gorshkov, before picking up two wins in rounds two and three of the consolations. In round two, Grant defeated Cooper Mansfield of Cornerstone (Mich.) in a 16-6 major decision and Liam Leckie of Southeastern (Fla.) in a 10-4 decision. Grant lost the last match of the day to Cumberlands’ (Ky.) Sherman Dixon in a 3:39 fall.

In the 165-pound division, Sean Houston started the day with a 5:31 fall win over Missouri Valley’s Jesus Gutierrez, before dropping the second match to Jaden New of Life (Ga.) in a 2-1 decision. Houston unfortunately took an injury forfeit in round four of consolations to end the day with a 1-2 record.

Bradley Owens went 1-2 in the 149-pound weight class. Owens started the day with a 18-3 tech fall loss to Grand View’s (Iowa) Cole Ferguson, but followed it up with a 22-6 tech fall over Ross Womack of Williams Baptist (Ark.) in round two of consolation. Owens finished the day dropping a 12-8 decision to Menlo’s (Calif.) Ezekiel Lara.

Gavin Daniels wrestled in the 157-pound division for the Barons. Daniels fell 0-2 on the day, losing to Tyler Diaz of Simpson (Calif.) in a 14-1 major decision and Eli Clemmons of Cumberland (Tenn.) in a 19-6 Major decision.

BPC Men’s Wrestling will return to Gillis Gymnasium for an AAC matchup with St. Thomas (Fla.) on Friday, January 26, at Noon.
