On Monday, April 24, the Toombs County High School Lady Bulldog soccer season came to an end in the GHSA State AA Quarterfinals.

The girls traveled to Kennesaw to take on the #5 ranked Mt. Paran Christian Eagles. The match remained scoreless until 3 minutes left in the 1st half, when the Eagles took a 1-0 lead. The Eagles struck again, 2 minutes into the 2nd half, and added a 3rd a few minutes later. The Bulldogs got one back, with Freshman Emerson Powell scoring on a corner kick from Maritza Zamorano, but that was all the bulldogs scored, and the match ended 3-1 in favor of Mt. Paran.

Head Coach Jeremy Moore said, “I am so proud of this group of girls. We have had a goal for several years of making it to the quarterfinals, but we have come really close a few times, but this group was determined and was able to break through and get there. They accomplished this as a 4 seed coming out of a tough region, which meant winning 2 playoff matches on the road.”

It was the first time the Lady Bulldogs had broken through to the Elite 8 in soccer, and they finished the historic year with a record of 12-8-1.
