Man Killed in Wreck Near Alamo

One driver died in a two-vehicle mishap on U.S. Highway 280 just outside of Alamo in Wheeler County on Monday, May 1.

Authorities have not yet released the name of the deceased man whose vehicle collided with the trailer of a log truck at the intersection of Highway 280 (GA 30) and Erick Road about 6:45 a.m. Georgia State Patrol troopers were advised of this accident around 6:45 a.m., and upon preliminary investigation believe that the log truck failed to stop at the stop sign on Erick Road, which caused the tractor trailer to enter the path of the victim’s pickup truck. The victim’s truck then struck the left side of the log truck’s trailer.

After the log truck was determined to be at fault of the accident, which killed the other driver, the Troop 1 Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team was called to investigate the scene further. That investigation is still ongoing.
