Since December, the Toombs County 4-H BB team has been practicing and preparing for the Southeast District 4-H BB Team district qualifier. Every Thursday, the team would work on shooting positions, concentration, and knowledge of shooting safety all in hopes of being that best team at the district match.

The district match was held March 25 at the Toombs County Ag Center. Ninety participants from seven counties across Georgia attended in hopes of qualifying for state. An individual score of 310 out of 400 was required to qualify. A team score of 1550 is required for a team to qualify for the state shoot. All 15 participants from Toombs County shot high enough to qualify for state.

Toombs County had two teams of seven individuals each that qualified for the state match. Toombs County Team 1 consisted of Miranda Morgan, Kami Winn, Kaleb Bailey, Reba Salter, Alex Morgan and Payton Maldonado.

Toombs County Team 2 consisted of Kallie Rollins, Gavin Simpson, Heather Emanuelson, Modesto Quintana, Kyleigh Wheeler, Kale Helmly, and Isaiah Norfleet. Both teams as a team shot a high enough score to qualify for state. Harper Underwood is also a member of the Toombs County BB Team and shot as an individual and also advanced to state.

Toombs County Team 1 placed 3rd overall out of ten teams. Miranda Morgan and Kami Winn tied for 12th overall for individual scores. Reba Salter placed 20th overall.

The state match will be held April 29 at Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton, Georgia. There is still much work to be done for the Toombs County youth, and they will continue to practice every week until the contest.

The Georgia 4-H Shooting Awareness, Fun and Education Program (S.A.F.E.) is sponsored by The Georgia 4-H Foundation. The Toombs County program is in its twelfth year. The team is coached by Project S.A.F.E. Certified Coaches Brett Copeland and Lori Copeland and helped tremendously by parents and volunteers. The Toombs County 4-H Program is under the coordination of Cheryl Poppell, Extension Coordinator and Riley Wimberly, 4-H Educator.
