VHS Takes 2 From Appling

The Vidalia High School Indians Basketball teams both lost to Tattnall County on Tuesday of last week, but then bounced back to sweep Appling County on Friday.

Girls vs. Tattnall

Tattnall was up 13-10 with just over six minutes to go in the first half of the game. With just over three minutes left in the half, the Lady Warriors were up 1613. With 2:15 left, Cristal Franklin tied the game at 17-17. Tattnall pulled back away to a 28-19 lead, though, by the end of the first half.

Early in the third the score was 33-27 with the Lady Indians trailing. Tattnall pulled it to 44-33 with just over four minutes to play in the game, and they went on to win the game 5243.

Kaliya Walker led VHS with 14 points and Hannah Nichols added 9 in the loss.

Boys vs. Tattnall

With 4:38 left in the first quarter, Tattnall put the first points on the board. After another Warrior basket, Cori Mincey hit a three to close the lead to 4-3. DJ Wallace gave VHS a 5-4 lead, and then Jayon Coleman made it 7-4. But Tattnall came back and took an 8-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The game was tied at 14-14 in the second, and it was 22-22 with just 20 seconds left in the first half. At halftime the score was 23-22 with Tattnall up by one.

Tattnall pulled ahead to a 29-22 lead in the second half, and it was 35-29 with four minutes left in the third. In the fourth quarter Tattnall had increased their lead to 48-34 as the Indians had gone cold on offense. The final score of the game was 59-50 with the Warriors getting the win.

Girls vs Appling

The Lady Indians rolled over the Lady Pirates. VHS led 15-6 at the end of the first quarter and had pushed that lead to 31-14 by halftime.

Appling did chip into the lead in the third quarter, but VHS still led 41-30 heading to the fourth quarter. VHS took the win over the Pirates 62-33.

VHS was led by Franklin with 17 points. Kamey Monroe and Walker each scored 10 in the game.

Boys vs. Appling

VHS had no problems with the Pirates. They were up 11-4 early in the game and had made it 17-6 later in the first. By late in the first half VHS was leading 42-20 over the Pirates and were in complete control. The Indians went on to win the game 89-43.

This week is the Region Tournament at Tattnall County. The boys played on Tuesday night against Pierce County after presstime. If they win that game, they will play Thursday against Windsor Forest at 8:30 p.m. The Lady Indians will play on Thursday night against a TBD opponent at 4:00 p.m.
