Lady Eagles Win 24 Straight

The Montgomery County High School Eagles wrapped up the regular season last week as they took on Telfair County, McIntosh County Academy, and Treutlen County. The Lady Eagles won all three of their games to finish the regular season with a record of 24-1 and 8-0 in Region play. The boys picked up a win over McIntosh as they are 10-15 on the year and are 5-5 in the Region.

Girls vs. Telfair

The Lady Trojans of Telfair kept the game close early with MCHS up by just one, 16-15, at the end of the first quarter. But in the second quarter of the game, the Eagles began to pull away as they outscored the Trojans 20-10. That gave MCHS a 36-25 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter of the game the Lady Trojans closed that gap to 44-40. But MCHS was too much for the Trojans as they took the win 60-55.

MCHS was led by Marley Bell with 20 points, and Amire Banks and Jaliya Moore each scored 15 in the game.

Boys vs. Telfair

It was a close game as the Eagles came storming back late, and almost pulled out the win. At the end of the first quarter, the game was tied at 16-16, but in the second the Trojans went ahead and were leading 36-27 at the end of the first half of action.

Telfair pulled away in the third quarter of the game to a 61-39 lead. But MCHS outscored Telfair 29-12 in the fourth quarter and almost pulled off the comeback. The Eagles fell by the score of 73-68.

MCHS was led by Jakobe Mobley with 23 points, and Tristen Bell added 16 in the loss. continued from page

Girls vs. McIntosh

On Friday in Mt. Vernon the game was tied at 4-4 early in the first quarter. McIntosh led 6-4, but Bell tied the game and then Banks gave MCHS the lead. Banks found Jabrayla Coglin for a basket, and then Coglin added a threepointer for a 14-6 lead late in the first quarter.

In the second Banks found Bell on a fast-break with a nice behind-theback pass for a 20-7 lead with 4:30 left in the half. Banks added a basket, and a three by Moore gave the Eagles a 25-10 lead. By the end of the first half the Lady Eagles were on top 29-12.

It was 38-14 halfway through the third quarter, and MCHS took the win, 52-28.

Boys vs. McIntosh

The Buccaneers took an early lead and were on top 12-8. The Eagles went on a run in the second quarter and took a 33-26 lead into halftime.

In the third the Bucs closed the lead to 42-39, and then came back in the fourth quarter as they outscored MCHS 20-14. That gave the the Bucs the win, 59-56 over the Eagles.

Girls vs. Treutlen

In the girls game the Lady Eagles closed out the regular season on a 24 game winning streak. Their only loss came in the first game of the season against Ware County. MCHS won the game over the Lady Vikings by the score of 64-42.

Boys vs. Treutlen

The Vikings boys came away with the win over the Eagles. Treutlen won that game by the score of 83-65. Treutlen led 2519 at the end of the first and were up 52-34 at halftime.

Javarius Kelly led MCHS with 21 points, Mobley added 18, and Bell scored 11 in the loss.

This week the boys played Savannah Classical on Tuesday after presstime as part of the Regoin Tournament. Their next game will depend on whether they won or lost. The Lady Eagles will play on Thursday at Jenkins County with their opponent and game time TBD.
