Sydney Smith, a junior at Toombs County High School, has joined the esports team while also being a member of the Bulldogs cheerleading squad.

Smith, who is a cheerleader for the school's 2022-2023 squad, has always had a passion for gaming. When she heard about the opportunity to join the school's esports team, she knew it was the perfect opportunity to combine her love of gaming and cheerleading.

'I've always loved gaming and love the atmosphere,' said Smith. “I knew I had to be a part of it. And now that I'm a part of the team, I'm excited to bring my cheerleading skills to the table and help pump up the team during competitions.'

Smith's addition to the team has been met with excitement from both her teammates and the school community. The team captain, Adam Copeland, said, 'Having Sydney on the team is a great addition. Not only is she a skilled gamer, but her cheerleading skills and the athletic background will be a huge help in keeping our team motivated during competitions.'

The Toombs County High School Esports team will be competing this season in Splatoon 3 and Rocket League with their first match set to take place next week. The team is confident that Smith's unique combination of skills will give them an edge in the competition, and they're excited to see her in action on the virtual battlefield.

In a time when Esports are becoming more popular, Toombs County High School is leading the way by incorporating a dual-athlete like Sydney Smith on their team, and it's an innovative approach that could set a trend for other high schools to follow.
