Mrs. Doris Stephens
Mrs. Doris Elaine Stephens, age 91, of the Orianna Community, died on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at the Dream Catcher Senior Care Community in
Jackson. Mrs. Stephens was born in Laurens County. As a child, she lived with her family in Thomaston and returned to Treutlen County, where she graduated from Soperton High School. She worked at J.P. Stevens and Forstmans as a planner in the Preparation Department for approximately 43 years, until she retired in the mid 1990s. She was a member of Poplar Springs Methodist Church in Adrian. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Lee Avery and Lillie Mae Sanders Avery; her husband, Jack Stephens; and siblings, infant brother Vernon Avery, Remus Avery, Franklin Avery, Catherine Durden and Lawana Crafton. Survivors include her children, Calvin Stephens (Kathy), Adrian, Michael Stephens (Penny), Alamo, Kim Stephens (Brenda), Lyons, Tammy Humphreys (Paul), Springfield, VA, and Karen Strevel (Jacob), McDonough; her grandchildren, Christopher Joe Stephens, Michael Keith Stephens, Devon Humphreys, Brandon Humphreys, Aubrie Humphries, Rhianna Humphreys, Ethan Strevel, Jackson Strevel, Jessica Warren, Martin Stephens, Cheney Stephens, Jake Upchurch, Courtney Upchurch, and Maggie Llewelyn; 18 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at 10:30 a.m., in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home, with Rev. Troy Mattox and Rev. Archie Norman officiating. Interment followed in Poplar Springs Methodist Church
Cemetery. Pallbearers were Christopher Joe Stephens, Martin Stephens, Kim Stephens, Ethan Strevel, Michael Keith Stephens and
Jake Upchurch. Sammons Funeral Home in Soperton was in charge of arrangements.
