VRD 8U Take 2nd In Lyons

In the 59th Annual Lyons Youth Tournament at Partin Park, the 8U Girls took to the field from May 26 – June 3, with Vidalia taking second place.

In the first round of the tournament Jeff Davis lost to Long County 15-0 and Reidsville fell to Appling County 12-1. In the next round Vidalia started their tournament with a win over Long, 14-4, and Lyons lost their opening game to Evans County 14-6. Bacon County rolled over Glennville 24-0, and Swainsboro beat Appling 11-0. In the next round Vidalia lost to Bacon County 12-2, and Swainsboro beat Evans 16-15. In the semifinals of the winners' bracket, Bacon beat Swainsboro 14-10 to move into the finals. In the losers' bracket Lyons got a win by forfeit over Jeff Davis, and Reidsville beat Glennville 9-8. Lyons' tournament then came to an end with a loss to Appling, 15-5 and Long beat Reidsville 14-5. Long then defeated Evans County 20-7. Up next for Vidalia was Appling and VRD rolled to a win. They were on top 14-2 by the end of the first inning, pushed that lead to 21-4 in the second and took the win in three innings, 34-4. That set Vidalia and Long up in the next round. VRD was up 13-3 at the end of the first inning, and rolled to a 27-14 win to move into the semifinals against Swainsboro.

This was a close game, but VRD pulled it out. The game was tied at 2-2 in the first but Vidalia pulled ahead 6-2 in the second. The score was 10-7 at the end of the third with VRD holding onto the lead. At the end of the fourth VRD was up 12-7, and they led 15-12 after five innings. VRD was held scoreless in the top of the sixth inning, but they held on in the bottom of the frame to get the win over Swainsboro, 15- 14.

That put Vidalia in the finals against Bacon County. This game didn't get far as some controversy quickly arose and the game was called after just two innings with Bacon in the lead. Bacon was awarded the Tournament Championship with Vidalia taking second place.
