VRD 12U Boys Win At Partin Park

In the 59th Annual Lyons Youth Tournament the 12U boys baseball tournament took place recently with the boys from Vidalia taking home the title. In the first round of the tournament, Reidsville rolled over Jenkins County 21-1, and Evans County beat Montgomery County 16-4.

Up next Long County beat Reidsville 13-0, Vidalia won easily over Metter 12-0, Swainsboro beat Evans County 19-0, and Lyons lost to Appling Couny 2-1. Vidalia then beat Long County 9-1 to advance to the semifinals to play Swainsboro who beat Appling County 4-3.

In the losers' bracket Lyons beat Jenkins County 12-0, Metter blew out Montgomery County 29-0, Evans ended Lyons run 11-5, and then Metter beat Reidsville 3-0. Long County knocked out Evans County 7-3, Appling defeated Metter 12-7, and then Appling beat Long County 6-1. That put Appling and Swainsboro in the semifinals of the losers' bracket. Swainsboro won that game 6-2 to set up a rematch with Vidalia.

The Championship Game between Vidalia and Swainsboro was all Vidalia. Vidalia jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning, and led 6-0 after two innings. VRD increased that lead to 9-1 in the third inning and held on to win the game by that score.

Lyons and Vidalia are both playing in the District 1 Tournament this week in Effingham County. The Championship Game will be on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
