Vidalia Track Sweeps Region

The Vidalia High School Lady Indians and Indians swept the Region 2AA Track Meet held at Jeff Davis High School on Monday and Tuesday of last week. The Lady Indians bested Woodville- Tompkins by 51 points with a total of 181, while the boys rolled over their nearest competitor Jeff Davis by 81 points with a total of 208.

Sarah Owen and Brandon Beasley took the High Point awards, with Owen winning the 800m, 1,600m, and the 3,200m. Beasley took first place in the long jump, triple jump, and was 3rd in the 200m. He was also a member of the 1st place 4x200m Team.

In all the Lady Indians took eight first-place finishes, and the Indians placed first in four events. “It was an excellent 2 days of competition for the Indians and Lady Indians,” said Vidalia Head Track and Field Coach Mandy Godbee. “Everyone had a job to do, and they focused and got the job done,” added Godbee.

With the wins, Vidalia will now send 15 girls in 12 events to the State Sectionals, which will be held at East Laurens on May 7. The boys qualified 19 in 15 events, and Godbee said that their focus now shifts to State. “They knew this was a big stepping stone to getting into state and they executed it beautifully. The drive, determination, and passion for the competition are at an all-new level for these athletes as they set their sights on the next qualifying meet at East Laurens.”

Girls

Owen led the way for the Lady Indians with 1st in the 800m, 1st in the 1,600m with a new school record, and 1st in the 3,200m. Kyleigh Johnson took 1st place in both the 100m hurdles and the 300m hurdles. Diamond Cook finished 1st in the shot put. Kaitlyn Allen was 2nd in the 800m and 2nd in the 1,600m. Aidyn Drigges was 2nd in the 800m. Dashia Ford took 2nd in the 100m hurdles and was 4th in the 300m hurdles. Georgia Meredith finished 3rd in the 1,600m and in the 3,200m. Moriah Wardlaw was 3rd in the 400m. Aleaha Ajohda was 4th in the 3,200m, Lyndsey Morris was 4th in the triple jump, and Shayla Bennett was 4th in the shot put.

The 4x100m relay team of Matlin Mead, Tymber Harris, Ryleigh Seidling, and Aidyn Driggers finished in 4th. The 4x200m team of Moriah Wardlaw, Kyleigh Johnson, Dashia Ford, and Samara Troupe took 2nd. The 4x400m team of Moriah Wardlaw, Kaitlyn Allen, Kyleigh Johnson, and Sarah Owen finished 1st. And the 4x800m relay team of Kaitlyn Allen, Aleaha Ajohda, Aidyn Driggers, and Georgia Meredith took 1st.

Boys

Beasley led the boys with 1st in the long jump, 1st in the triple jump, and 3rd in the 200m dash. Hunter Manning finished 1st in the pole vault. Jahlyn Madison was 2nd in the 110m hurdles and in the 300m hurdles. Luke Palmer was 2nd in the 3,200m and was 3rd in the 1,600m. Andrew Hodges was 2nd in the 1,600m and took 3rd in the 800m. Tyran Jacobs was 2nd in the 100m and was 4th in the 200m. Camron Glasper was 2nd in the high jump and 4th in the 300m hurdles. Jack Godbee finished 2nd in the pole vault. Jordan Powell was 4th in the 100m, Daniel Hodges was 4th in the 800m, Seth MacGregor was 4th in the 3,200m, Nahvie Berry finished 4th in the 110m hurdles, and Jamari Jermon took 4th in the triple jump.

The 4x100m relay team of Jordan Powell, Jahlyn Madison, AJ Mc-Clendon, and Tyran Jacobs finished in 2nd place. The 4x200m team of Brandon Beasley, Jahlyn Madison, AJ Mc-Clendon, and Tyran Jacobs took 1st place. The 4x400m team of Camron Glasper, Jamarion Smith, Jordan Powell, and Christian Williams was 2nd, and the 4x800m team of Andrew Hodges, Luke Palmer, Hunter Loosberg, and Jamarion Smith finished 2nd with a new school record.
