Robert Toombs Christian Academy's Varsity girls soccer team took on Piedmont Academy in the first round of GISA State A Girls Soccer Playoffs last Monday at RTCA. This was a tough contest with RTCA being the 4th seed and Piedmont being the 5th seed in the bracket of six teams. The Lady Crusaders gave up a quick goal in the first two minutes of the game. RTCA would continue to fight hard for 77 more minutes trying to get a goal and find the back of the net. Finally, with seconds left in regulation play, 8th grader Madaline Wolfe snuck a goal past the diving Piedmont goalie, which tied the game at 1-1 at the end of regulation, sending the game into overtime.

With two 10 minute halves to play, the Lady Crusaders went down again when Piedmont scored in the 7th minute of the first overtime period. The Lady Crusaders would battle for 9 more minutes before junior Amily Mixon had a beautiful free kick tying the teams at 2 with less than 4 minutes left to play.

The Lady Crusaders took the lead with 1:30 left in the second overtime period when Mixon was fouled and scored a penalty kick making the score 3-2.

The Lady Crusaders held on to the lead and took the victory after 100 minutes of soccer, 3- 2.

This was also the first win of the season for the RTCA girls who are now 1-10-1. Goal keeper Abbie Bishop had five saves in the game, Mixon had two goals and Wolfe had one goal with an assist from Morgan Newsome.

With the win, the Lady Crusaders move on to the second round of the tournament, which is the semifinals. RTCA played Georgia Christian in Valdosta on Monday of this week after presstime.
