Wheeler County Wins State

On April 14, 2022, the Wheeler County Middle and High School FFA chapters traveled to Swainsboro to compete in the State FFA Forestry Field Day. Forestry Field Days consist of ten events that eleven different students compete in. There are twelve junior and twelve senior teams at these state events. This year the high school junior team placed 5th. Individual placings were Marcy Delgado-1st in Forest Disorders, Faith Clark-2nd in Land Measurement, and Lauren Humphrey-1st in Timber Stand Improvement. Other team members included Maryee-Grace Selph, Marley Palma, Lindsey Vinson, Anniyah Wright, Adriel Collins, Erin Blankenbiller, Rylee Burkhalter, Sierra Connell, and Steven Garcia.

The high school senior team landed 6th in the state. Individual placings were Chase Wooten-3rd in Reforestation, Weston Pickle-3rd in Board Foot Volume, Hannah Moore-2nd in Forest Disorders, and Haven Griffin-2nd in Ocular Estimation. Other team members were Riley Coleman, Jay Adams, Bailey Davis, Marlee Veal, Lily Parker, Amber Seabolt, Lesie Spoon, Caitlin Moore, Owen Stokes, Molly Bridges, and Emily Herrington.

The Wheeler County Middle School FFA are the 2022 Junior Forestry Field Day State Champions. Individual placings were Brody Adams-1st in Reforestation, MacKenzie Johnson-1st in Compass and Pacing, Rileigh Scott-1st in Land Measurement, Sadey Cravey-3rd in Tree Identification, Anna Beth Ethredge-2nd in Forest Disorders, Shelley Conner-1st in Ocular Estimation, and Laurie Conner and Gabby Angel-2nd in Forest Management. Other team members included Lane Connell, Paul Harrelson, Zoey Vann, and Layton Johnson.
