Indians Win In Double OT

The Vidalia High School Indians soccer team pulled off the double overtime upset of Putnam County’s War Eagles on Friday of last week in Eatonton. In the first half of the game the Indians and the War Eagles each scored one goal which sent the game to halftime tied. Konner Owens picked up the first half goal for VHS. But in the second half of the game the defenses of both teams played well and neither team could find the back of the net. That sent the game to overtime. In the first five-minute overtime period, again, neither team scored, which moved the game to the second overtime period. In double overtime the Indians found a way, and with just 11 seconds left before the game went to a shootout, Daniel Hodges broke between two defenders and scored for VHS to give them the 2-1 win over Putnam.

That moves VHS into the second round where they will face off with Pace Academy in Atlanta on Thursday with game time still to be determined. VHS is now 11-8 on the year and Pace is 13-6.
