Bulldogs Sweep Falcons

The Toombs County High School Bulldogs baseball team improved the Region record with three wins over East Laurens last week. TCHS won all three games by the run rule. They are now 9-14-1 on the year and are 4-8 in the Region. vs. EL Game 1 On Tuesday they met up in East Dublin for the first game of the series. Toombs took the early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning. Both of those runs scored off a single by Wil Watts.

TCHS extended that lead in the second inning. Brantley Upshaw came through with a single with the bases loaded, and then an error on the Falcons allowed three runs to score to push the lead to 5-0. Toombs added two more runs in the inning as they were on top 7-0 heading to the third inning. The Bulldogs picked up three runs in the third inning as Treyvone Harris drove in two runs and came all the way around to score on the hit with a little help from the Falcons. That gave TCHS a 10-0 lead. Toombs plated three more runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth on the way to a 14-0 win. Logan Knight got the win on the mound for Toombs and he struck out 10 batters.

Game 2

The second game of the series was in Lyons on Thursday. In the first inning neither team could get a run across, but in the bottom of the second inning the Bulldogs broke the game open with nine runs. The Bulldogs got RBI hits from Upshaw, Harris, and Kodie Cortez. A couple runs scored off of errors, and by the end of the inning the Bulldogs were on top 9-0. In the third inning the Bulldogs loaded up the bases. There were RBI hits by Quintero and Cortez, and the final run of the game came in on a walk as TCHS won, 15-0. Lucan O'Conner threw a no hitter over those three innings with six strikeouts.

Game 3

In the final game of the week the Bulldogs again won by the run rule. This time they plated two runs in the top of the first inning. Harris scored on a wild pitch and then Jason Dukes drove in a run to put TCHS up 2-0. TCHS added a run on an RBI triple by Upshaw in the second inning for a 3-0 lead. The Falcons scored two in the bottom of the second inning to close it to 3-2.

The Bulldogs added two more runs in the fourth inning. The first scored on a double by Upshaw, and the second on a passed ball. That gave TCHS a 5-2 lead.

Toombs closed out the game with seven runs in the top of the fifth inning. Toombs loaded up the bases and got a two-RBI single by Knight. After loading the bases back up, Upshaw drove in three more runs. A run then scored on a wild pitch and the final run of the game came across off an RBI hit by Dukes. Upshaw had a big game as he drove in five runs and was the winning pitcher. He also struck out 10 batters in the game. This week TCHS will wrap up the regular season with a Region series against the Tigers of Swainsboro. The first game was on Tuesday after presstime. They will play in Swainsboro on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and then be in Lyons on Friday at 5:45 p.m.
