VHS Track Runs At S. Effingham

South Effingham hosted their Invitational track meet Friday, April 8, with the Vidalia High School Indians in attendance. The boys team came up big with 130 pts defeating Appling County as they scored 92 points and Benedictine finishing 3rd with 73.5 points. This team also broke their own school record in the 4x200m relay by another 2 seconds with a time of 1:30.66 with team members of Brandon Beasley, Jahlyn Madison, AJ McClendon and Tyran Jacobs. These young men continue to put in the work and focus on getting better and faster every week and it is paying off each time they step on the track.

Girls

Sarah Owen led the Lady Indians with a 1st place finish in the 800m and in the 3,200m runs. Diamond Cook took 2nd place in the discus. The girls 4x800m finished in 2nd place with the team of Kaitlyn Allen, Aleah Ajohda, Georgia Meredith, and Sarah Owen, with a season PR-10:55. The girls 4x400m took 3rd place with a team of Sarah Owen, Kaitlyn Allen, Ryleigh Seidling, and Moriah Wardlaw.

Boys

For the boys Brandon Beasley led the way with a 1st place in the triple jump and a 2nd place finish in the long jump. Jahlyn Madison was 1st in the 300m hurdles with a PR time of 40.62. Nahvie Berry took 2nd in the 110m hurdles. Jack Godbee was 3rd in the pole vault with a PR of 8ft. Andrew Hodges was 3rd in the 800m and took 5th in the 1,600m with a PR of 4:54. Luke Palmer was 3rd in the 1,600m. The boys 4x100m relay was 1st with Jordan Powell, Jahlyn Madison, AJ McClendon, and Tyran Jacobs. The 4x200m relay was 1st with the team of Brandon Beasley, Jahlyn Madison, AJ McClendon, and Tyran Jacobs with a new school record of 1:30.66. The 4x400m relay finished in 3rd place with the team of Nahvie Berry, Jordan Powell, Deante Terrell, and Christian Williams with a PR of 3:38. And the 4x800m relay finished in 2nd place with the team of Luke Palmer, Andrew Hodges, Jamarion Smith, and Hunter Loosberg with a season PR of 8:54.

Coach Mandy Godbee said, “Both teams continue to show improvement each week. This is an outstanding group of athletes that continue to strive for excellence. I am excited about the upcoming weeks ahead as they prepare for the post season.”

The Indians will hit the road this week. On Tuesday they were at West Laurens after presstime. On Friday VHS will compete in Albany at the Westover Relays.
