Vikings Take 2 From Dublin

The Treutlen County High School Vikings baseball team took on Dublin in a Region series last week with the Vikings winning two of the three games.

Game 1

The first game was in Dublin on Tuesday of last week. It took nine innings before the game was decided. The Irish took the early lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning and then another in the second to lead 2-0.

In the top of the fourth inning Treutlen got on the board with one run, but Dublin answered in the bottom half of the frame with two more to lead 4-1. Treutlen jumped out with four runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 5-4 lead over the Irish, but in the bottom of the frame Dublin managed to plate a run to tie the game at 5-5 to force extra innings. In the eighth inning each team scored a run to send the game to an additional inning. In the top of the ninth Truetlen was held scoreless, and Dublin scored in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-6 win over the Vikings.

Game 2

In Soperton on Friday the two teams played a double header. In the first of the two games, the Vikings bounced back with a big win. In the top of the first inning, Dublin jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but Treutlen answered in the bottom half with two runs to close it to a 3-2 lead. Dublin added a run in the second, and the Vikings scored two more to tie the game at 4-4. Neither team scored in the third or fourth innings, and the Vikings plated one run in the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. In the top of the sixth inning Dublin tied the game up, but Treutlen exploded for six runs in the bottom half as they led 11-5. Dublin picked up one more in the top of the seventh, but the Vikings took the win, 11-6. Trace Peeples led the way with three RBI’s in the game for the Vikings.

Game 3

The final game of the series was a high scoring affair with a total of 43 runs scored. The score was just 2-1 Dublin after the first inning, and 3-1 after the second.

In the third inning Dublin added two more as they pulled out to a 5-0 lead over the Vikings. But in the bottom of the inning, Treutlen scored four runs to close it to a 5-4 lead. The Vikings then added five more in the fourth and three in the fifth to lead 13-5.

In the top of the sixth inning the wheels fell off for the Vikings as they gave up 13 runs to the Irish. That put Dublin on top 18-13. Treuten had an answer in the bottom of the sixth, scoring 12 runs of their own to go back ahead, 25-18.

Treutlen then held in the top of the seventh inning to win the game by that score. Pierce Walker led Treutlen with five RBI’s and Peeples added four in the win.

This week Treutlen has two nonregion games as they played Swainsboro on Tuesday after presstime, and will be back in action on Friday at home against East Laurens at 6:00 p.m.
