BPC To Upgrade Track & Field Facilities

Brewton-Parker College Vice President of Athletics Chris Dooley is pleased to announce the upcoming facility upgrades for the BPC Track and Field program. The new upgrades include a competitionlevel track surface as well as designated jump, field, and throw areas. “We are thrilled to provide improvements to our athletic facilities with the upcoming installment of the track and field upgrades,” Dooley said. “The track and field program at BPC has seen tremendous growth from roughly 30 student-athletes to about 90 currently. We are excited for the future as well as the opportunities this facility will bring to our track and field program.” The upgraded facilities will include new opportunities for BPC Track & Field to grow. Some of the noteworthy additions to Track and Field space on campus will include a Hammer Cage for the field area as well as the ability to run Steeple Chase on the track. These two upgrades will allow the program to offer all events within Track and Field.

BPC Track and Field will now have a designated practice space that provides competitionlevel surfaces like the facilities that they compete on throughout the year. This facility gives the Track and Field program the ability to have the flexibility of schedule since it was utilizing the local high school track for practice. “When I was hired two years ago, a facility like this was a lofty dream that did not seem likely for at least 5-10 years,” Director of Track and Field Adam Cokonougher said. “We will now have our own rubberized track surface which is such an improvement from the asphalt surface we have now. This will grow our program exponentially and it is something we look forward to using for many years to come.”

Ground-breaking for the new facility is set to begin this week with the start of tearing the old track surface out. The new track surface is in partnership with Geo-Surfaces Southeast, based out of North Carolina.
