The Wheeler County High School Bulldogs basketball teams took on Hawkinsville and Johnson County last week with the girls dropping both of their games and the boys winning both of theirs.

Girls vs. Hawkinsville The Lady Red Devils of Hawkinsville ran away with this game. It was close in the first quarter with the Lady Bulldogs trailing 11-9, but in the second the Lady Devils pulled out to a 29-18 lead. Hawkinsville outscored the Bulldogs 30-9 in the second half of the game as they took the win, 59-27.

Boys vs. Hawkinsville

The boy’s game was a close battle with the Bulldogs coming out on top by three points. Wheeler got the win, 54-51, over Hawkinsville.

Girls vs. Johnson

The Lady Bulldogs fell to Johnson County. The game was close in the first quarter as Wheeler trailed 16-11, and they kept pace in the second, but trailed 32-27 at the end of the first half. In the second half things began to go south for Wheeler as Johnson outscored them 13-7 in the third and then 11-8 in the fourth on the way to a 56-42 win over the Lady Bulldogs.

Boys vs. Johnson

The Wheeler boys came away with a close win over Johnson in their game on Saturday. Wheeler took the win 52-48 over the Trojans. This week Wheeler faced Wilcox County on Tuesday after presstime. They will be back in action on Friday in Mt. Vernon against Montgomery County at 6:00 p.m.
