CONTEXT

A compilation of quotations on a variety of issues by national, state and regional writers, well-known personalities, just plain everyday people and from various publications collected by the editors of THE ADVANCE.

Quotes for our Times:

Spencer Brown, managing editor for Townhall: Tim Scott: 'The Last Time Inflation Was This High, I Had an Afro'

As Schumer's promise to get Build Back Better passed and to President Biden's desk before Senators leave town looks exceedingly unlikely, Senator Scott issued a call to 'have a Christmas surprise and not pass the BBB.'

Senator Scott took an optimistic tone when discussing main Democrat hold-out Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), saying 'every sign that we've seen from Joe Manchin is he's concerned about two things: One is inflation because he understands that the average person in South Carolina or West Virginia cannot take any more — median income in this country is around $35,000 a year,' he noted.

Kurt Schlichter, conservative political commentator: Inflation devastation for the democrats.

The problem is, at least for now and outside of big blue cities, we normal people still get to vote. And we are angry – very, very angry. Inflation is devastating our families. It’s not such a big problem when your diversity consulting gig pays you mega-bucks, but for people just getting by – especially after the same ruling caste screwed up the economy panicking over the pandemic – inflation is devastating. And the polls show voters are steamed even though the legacy media obediently tries to push the narrative that all is swell.

Greg Gutfeld, host of Gutfeld! and cohost of The Five: If you want student loan forgiveness, go to the schools, not us.

But it does raise a point: why do the dumbest people have the most degrees? As a matter of fact, the really smart ones don't have any. Einstein quit high school, Bill Gates dropped out, so did James Woods and David Geffen. Both Zuckerberg and Steve Jobs left school without diplomas too. What does that tell ya?

At least these people have made huge contributions to our world, unlike you dolts. Those pieces of paper we call diplomas are the only reason to mistake 'The Squad' for being smart.

Carol Roth, former investment banker, entrepreneur and author: Inflation is real. So why is the liberal media still lying about it?

The administrations’ efforts to create a 'media spin' are so ridiculous they seem to border on parody.

Like when White House tried to tout the fictional 16 cents you were supposed to save on your Fourth of July cookout, or the recent tweet by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee that praised President Biden for a two cent decrease in gas prices after a large cost run-up.

And then, of course, if you weren’t persuaded by any of the above, politicos from Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., to White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki blame 'corporate greed' for the pricing run up, as if it now just occurred companies to be 'greedy' and increase prices substantially.
