Montgomery Eagles Take 2 From Red Devils

The Eagles of Montgomery County High School picked up two Region wins over Hawkinsville on Tuesday of last week, but on Friday in Vidalia the Eagles split with the Indians.

Girls vs. Hawkinsville

It was a blowout win for the Lady Eagles on the road. MCHS led 12-7 after the first quarter and then went on a tear in the second as they outscored the Red Devils 25-0, to hold a 37-7 lead at halftime. The MCHS defense kept up the pressure in the second half of the game as they allowed the Devils to score just 8 more points. MCHS added 26 more in the third and then 12 in the fourth on the way to a 75-15 win. MCHS was led b y Maky l a Bell with 22 points, Marley Bell added 16, and Zakhia Lawhorne posted 13 in the win.

Boys vs. Hawkinsville

The Devils made it tough for the Eagles, but MCHS pulled out the win. Hawkinsville got on the board first, but a threepointer by Quantez Lewis put the Eagles on top 3-2. A steal and a basket by Samari Madi son extended that lead. Demorrius Brooker hit a three pointer later in the first to give the Eagles a 14-11 lead.

In the second quarter the Eagles led 18-17 in a low scoring game after a layup by Tristian Bell. As both teams still struggled to find a rhythm on offense the game was tied at 24-24 in the third quarter. The Eagles went on top 29-26, and then a fastbreak basket by Bell put them up 31-26. In the fourth the Devils came back to tie the game 34-34, but a three from Bell gave MCHS the lead, 37-34. With the game tied again, this time at 43-43 late in the contest, Taliek Jackson drilled a three for the 46-43 lead.

MCH S pulled away late in the game to take a 54-44 win over the Devils.

Girls vs. Vidalia

The Lady Eagles took the win over the Lady Indians at home on Friday night. MCHS led the game 18-10 at the end of the first period, and pushed that lead to 36-18 by the end of the first half.

In the third the Indians got the offense going as they kept pace, but MCHS was on top 57-36 heading to the fourth. The Lady Eagles took the win, 67-48 over Vidalia. Marley Bell led MCHS with 25 points, Makyla Bell added 17 points, and Amire Banks put 12 on the board in the win.

Boys vs. Vidalia

The Vidalia boys got the win over the Eagles. VHS led the game 24-13 at the end of the first period and held a 41-21 lead at halftime. By the end of the third quarter the score was 63-26 as VHS pulled away. The final score of the game was 78-39. MCHS was led by Javarius Kelly with 17 points. The Eagles will be back in action after the Christmas holiday.
