Busy Week For Wheeler

The Wheeler County High School Bulldogs basketball teams have been busy. Last week they faced off with Wilcox County at home on Tuesday, hosted Johnson County on Friday, and then were at Telfair County on Saturday. The boys also played on Monday of this week against Westwood in the Deerfield Windsor Christmas Tournament. The girls lost all three of the games, but the boys came away with four wins.

Girls vs. Wilcox

It was a battle, but the Lady Bulldogs came up just short. Wilcox was on top at the end of the first, 15-12, but Wheeler came back in the second quarter to take a 26-15, halftime lead. In the third quarter of the game the Lady Patriots went back on top and led the game 43-40 heading into the fourth quarter.

In the final period Wheeler matched Wilcox, but could not take the lead as they fell 58-55. Freshman standout Mahogany King put on a show for Wheeler as she put up 41 points in the game, making nearly 60% of her shots.

Boys vs. Wilcox

The boys picked up the win over Wilcox. They won the game 55-46 over the Patriots to improve their record and get the big Region win.

Girls vs. Johnson

It was a tough game for the Lady Bulldogs as they faced off with the Lady Trojans of Johnson. Wheeler struggled to get the offense going as they scored just 17 points in the game. Johnson County took the win, 53-17.

Boys vs. Johnson

It was another big Region win for the Bulldogs as they took a 10-point victory over the Trojans. Wheeler came out on top 62-52.

Girls vs. Telfair

On the road in McRae on Saturday the Wheeler girls fell to the Trojans of Telfair. It was another tough game offensively for Wheeler as they were held to 22 points. Telfair won the game 61-22.

Boys vs. Telfair

This was a closer game for the Bulldogs, but they took the Region win over their rivals. Wheeler picked up the 66-59 win to move their Region record to 5-0.

Boys vs. Westwood

On Monday of this week the Bulldogs faced off with Westwood’s Wildcats. Wheeler rolled to an easy win, 68-32. The win gives Wheeler a 9-1 record on the year. The boys also played on Tuesday of this week after presstime as they took on tournament host Deerfield Windsor after presstime. The Bulldogs will be back in action after the Christmas holiday.
