Terrell Eagles Pull Away From Crusaders

On Thursday night of last week the Robert Toombs Christian Academy Crusaders football team hosted Terrell Academy's Eagles. RTCA lost the game to fall to 1-9 on the year. Terrell had the ball to start the game, and on the first play from scrimmage they swung a pass out and the receiver broke free for a 65-yard touchdown. They added the extra point to take a quick 7-0 lead.

RTCA turned the ball over on downs at their own 37-yard line as they again elected not to punt the ball. That gave a short field to Terrell, and just a few plays later they were again in the end zone to push their lead to 14-0 with 6:13 left in the first quarter.

After turning the ball over on downs again, RTCA did get an interception from Jashaun Powell, and he returned it across midfield to the 45yard line. Tucker Heath had a nice run to the 34yard line, and then TJ Stanley hit Hayden Kight to the 20. A penalty moved the ball down to the 10-yard line. Stanley connected with Powell for the touchdown with 12 seconds left in the first quarter. Justin Bowers added the extra point to close the lead to 14-7.

Terrell had a big run for 20 yards after the ensuing kickoff, but RTCA recovered a fumble at their own 40-yard line on the final play of the first quarter. RTCA didn't get much going on their next drive and turned the ball over near midfield. Terrell moved the ball down the field and went in for the score with 9:10 left in the half. They added the extra point to lead 21-7.

On the kickoff Clayton Meadows had an 80yard return to the Terrell 19-yard line. Runs by Powell and Heath pushed it to the 2-yard line. Powell finally capped it off with the touchdown with 6:22 left in the half. Bowers added the extra point to make it 21-14. But Terrell ran the kickoff back for a touchdown to retake the momentum in the game. That made the score 2814. Terrell held on defense and took over at their 48-yard line. Two plays later they were in the end zone again with just over four minutes left in the half. That made the score 35-14. And that was the score at the end of the first half.

In the second half of the game RTCA added just one touchdown on a run by Heath, but Terrell scored two more times in the second half as the Eagles took the win over RTCA, 49-21.

This week RTCA will host Memorial Day in the final game of the regular season. RTCA comes into the game with a 1-9 record while Memorial enters the game with an 0-9 record.
