Wheeler Wins Over Vikings

Wheeler County High School's Bulldogs football team picked up a win over the Vikings of Treutlen County High School on Saturday of last week. The game was moved to Saturday due to weather.

The first points were put on the board by the Vikings when Wheeler was forced to recover a fumble in the end zone for a safety. That put Treutlen on top 2-0. The Bulldogs came back with a touchdown halfway through the second quarter on a 30-yard pass from Jacquez Kincy to Jay Faison. The two-point conversion failed, but Wheeler was on top 6-2.

Both defenses played well and the wet field contributed as neither team scored over the remainder of the first half, as well as through the third quarter of the game.

In the fourth quarter the Bulldogs put a drive together and capped it off with a 7-yard run by Faison. Kincy then hit Ian Scott for the two-point conversion to put Wheeler on top 14-2.

The next score came on an interception return for a touchdown by Claude Pound of Wheeler. They missed the extra point, but were now on top 20-2.

Treutlen did get into the end zone with just a few seconds left in the game when quarterback Quen Jordan broke for 15 yards and the touchdown. Harrison Rutherford added the extra point to make it 20-9. Wheeler took the win by that score. The Bulldogs are now 4-3 on the season and are 2-3 in the Region while the Vikings are 2-4 on the year and are 1-4 in the Region. Wheeler County will be at Johnson County this Friday night and Treutlen will be home as they host Dublin. Kickoff for both games is at 7:30 p.m.
