RTCA Plays In First Round

The Robert Toombs Christian Academy Lady Crusaders' softball season came to an end on Monday of this week in the first round of the GISA State AA Playoffs. RTCA traveled to Briarwood for a best-ofthree series, but fell in two games to the Buccaneers in Warrenton.

Game 1

The first game was a close one that was decided by just one run. After three scoreless innings, the Crusaders put the first run on the board in the top of the fourth inning. That gave them a 1-0 lead over the Bucs. Briarwood answered in the bottom of the fifth inning as they plated two runs to take the 2-1 lead over RTCA. RTCA tied the game in the top of the seventh inning at 2-2, but in the bottom of that final frame the Bucs managed to get a run across to take the win in Game 1, 3-2. Meredith Durden and Marli McCranie each had an RBI for RTCA, with Durden going six innings in the circle and striking out 8 batters. Ellie Graham added two hits for RTCA.

Game 2

In the second game it was a big first inning from the Bucs that decided this game. They jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first, and the Crusaders could never recover. Briarwood added a run in the top of the second inning to push the lead to 5-0.

The Bucs scored a run in the top of the sixth inning, and RTCA finally got on the board in the bottom half of the sixth with one run to make it 6-1. The Bucs put one final run up in the top of the seventh as they took the win, 7-1 over RTCA.

Morgan Newsome led the way at the plate for RTCA with 3 hits.

That loss ended the season for the Crusaders with a 12-7 record and a trip to the State Playoffs.
