MCHS Wins Over Johnson

The Montgomery County High School Eagles football team traveled to Wrightsville to take on Johnson County's Trojans last Friday night. The Eagles took the win to improve their record to 5-1 on the year and 4-1 in the Region.

Either team scored in the first quarter as both offenses tried to find their rhythm. In the second quarter the Eagles started a drive with great field position at the Johnson 39-yard line, and began to work the ball down the field. The Eagles looked like they may stall at the 20-yard line, but a big play all the way to the one set up the first score of the game. Two plays later MCHS took it in for the score on a short run by quarterback Bo Davidson. They missed the PAT, but were on top 6-0.

The remainder of the first half saw punts from both teams. The score at halftime was 6-0 with the Eagles on top.

In the third quarter a 27yard run by Xavier Brantley set up another MCHS touchdown. This one came on a 2-yard run by Davidson. Darius Wells went in for the two-point conversion to make it a 14-0 lead for the Eagles.

The Trojans finally got on the board with less than two minutes left in the third quarter on a rushing touchdown. They tacked on the PAT to close the lead to 147.

Early in the fourth quarter it was another short run by Davidson as the Eagles added to their lead. With the extra point they now led 21-7 over the Trojans.

Johnon scored to again close it to a one-possession game with six minutes to go. They added the extra point, and MCHS now was up just 21-14.

The final touchdown of the game came from the Eagles with under one minute left to go. That made the final score 28-14 with the Eagles taking the win.

Brandon Denmark led the way on the ground with 74 yards rushing, but the Eagles spread the ball around with five players getting touches in the run game.

This week MCHS will have Homecoming. They will host Telfair County with kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Homecoming festivities will be held before the game with a scheduled time of 7:00 p.m.
